Audi recalls more than 50,000 due to gas line issues
For many Americans, European vehicles are synonymous with elegance and wealth. Many of the best known European brands are considered luxury vehicles, and driving them announces affluence and success in certain circles.
Sadly, just because more expensive vehicle brands come with a certain degree of prestige does not mean they are immune from manufacturing issues and product recalls. Any vehicle could potentially include faulty components, which could increase the risk of an accident and injuries or fatalities to drivers. Audi is currently in the process of recalling roughly 52,000 vehicles due to a serious flaw that poses a risk to drivers.
A6 and A7 Audis included in this recall
Volkswagen hasn’t been having the best year for its brand. They recently had to recall over a quarter of a million vehicles because of fuel pump problems. Now, they’re staring down a smaller recall related to another of their brands.
Audi is part of the Volkswagen group and is marketed as their luxury brand. They have recently announced a recall in the United States and Canada related to serious fuel line issues in certain A6 and A7 Audis. It is possible for these vehicles, made between January 25, 2011, and September 13, 2013, to have fuel line issues that could result in leaking and increase the potential for a fire.
Although Audi announced that there have been no accidents, fires or deaths related to the issue, they won’t begin notifying owners of the need for replacement fuel lines until February. Once owners receive notification, they can schedule repairs at an Audi dealership. In the meantime, anyone driving an affected vehicle could end up sustaining major injuries or even dying as a result of these faulty fuel lines.
Consumers trust their vehicles and vehicle makers with their lives
Getting behind the wheel of a car is one of the most dangerous things that people in Illinois do every day. In the cold winter months, driving is even riskier. Ice and snow, as well as longer dark hours and decreased visibility, can increase the potential for a serious collision. While most drivers do anything in their power to avoid a crash, they typically also rely on the manufacturer of their vehicle to provide a safe means of transport.
When automobile manufacturers fail to do adequate safety testing on finished vehicles or even components and parts, consumers end up paying. Even small issues could have a catastrophic impact on the outcome of a collision or other kind of accident. While recalls allow manufacturers to correct these issues, they often don’t discover that there’s a faulty component in a vehicle until there’s been some kind of tragedy.
