Speeding really does cause car accidents
It’s safe to say that most people speed at least once in their life. Many people do it virtually every time they get on the road. It may just mean going five miles per hour over the limit, and they don’t think much of it.
If they get a ticket, these individuals are typically frustrated that they got caught. They don’t believe that what they were doing was all that dangerous and they resent having to pay a fine for it.
But the reality is that speeding is dangerous and it does cause car accidents. In cases of very excessive speed, this could be because people lose control of their vehicles. But even a slight increase in speed can decrease a driver’s reaction times so that he or she crashes in a situation where a wreck would otherwise have been avoided.
2020 showed this all too well
If you want to see proof, just look at the statistics from 2020. Miles driven went down, traffic levels dropped considerably and it looked like the one benefit of the year was that fewer people would lose their lives on the roads. Instead, fatal accidents increased during the year. One of the main reasons for this was an increase in speeding among those drivers who were still spending time on the now-empty highways. Even with less traffic, speeding caused so many accidents that more lives were lost.
If you have lost a loved one or suffered serious injuries in an accident caused by a speeding driver, you may be able to seek substantial compensation for medical bills and many other costs.
